Preschool

Our early preschool program is designed to help your child be prepared to learn basics such as letters, numbers, colors, shapes, and vocabulary words. In our Character Development program, teachers use puppets and other tools to introduce a different character trait each month. Through stories, discussion and role-playing, Early Preschoolers begin to develop an understanding of values like honesty, compassion and generosity. Learning to possess a sense of pride and responsibility is key at this age, and at Top of the World, our loving teachers put the time and dedication in to instilling core values and knowledge into your child. All of these things make it easier for your child once they begin our Pre-Kindergarten Program. Curiosity is what drives a toddler to explore new things, expanding the view of their growing world. At Top of the World Preschool, we balance learning with exercise, personal development, values, and goals.

Activities, Evaluations, and Notes

At Top of the World Preschool, we have caring, intuitive, and knowledgeable staff that will guide your two-year-old through this exciting stage, encouraging growth as physical, intellectual, communicative, creative, and social beings.

Flexing Little Muscles.

    Our classrooms provide a safe place for growing bodies to explore and discover their world. Balance, coordination, and motor skills are developed in playtime and social interaction.

Mental Fundamentals.

    Top of the World Preschool teachers will help your two-year-old stretch his or her cognitive abilities through a variety of stimulating activities that teach colors, counting, and categorizing. These and other learning tools will help build a strong foundation as your child broadens his or her intellectual horizons.

Word Play.

    A firm foundation in language leads to success as a reader. Our teaching approach nourishes early literacy by focusing on basic words and phrases, naming familiar objects, and comprehending instructions. Every time your child advances and moves up, they will add between 60-90 words to their vocabulary in each classroom they visit. Our teachers will also start to work with your children on the beginning of the stages of learning to write.

Artistic Logistics.

    Encouraging the natural abilities and talents within each child is one way Top of the World Preschool helps your child become well-rounded. Drawing, music, and dance encourage self-expression and enrich the classroom experience.

Let’s Be Friends.

    Self-awareness becomes pronounced as more time is spent around others. Supervised group play helps a child learn the value of sharing and cooperation. Playing slow, simple, and non-threatening competitive games and singing songs are examples of the group activities we employ at Top of the World Preschool to encourage the formation of friendships at this critical stage of growth.

Structure with Freedom.

    Sensory, motor, perceptual, and language skills are introduced through materials and activities that are both child-centered and teacher-directed. We recognize that the process rather than the product fosters a sense of accomplishment and pride. Based on the theory that children learn best through activity and application, classroom routines encourage active involvement, meaningful experimentation, and reinforcement through repetition. We have designed schedules that balance structure and free choice with active and quiet times.

Outdoor Play.

    At top of the World Preschool, we believe that every child needs to explore their imagination though play. Our two year old playground offers a bicycle route, playhouse, and an area where they can stretch their legs and let their imagination run wild!

In order for us to follow your child’s milestones, we evaluate each child throughout the year. By doing this it can help not only the teachers but the parents to see where your child is at and what area they need to focus on.  Evaluations are available to the parents at any time and copies will be made periodically throughout the year. To help the parents keep track a weekly note will be sent home. This note will contain a skill that they have been working on that week and to let you know how he or she is doing with it.

For example: Jane Doe named three familiar pictures with ease as we read a book today! This note contains the skill ‘named familiar pictures’ and how she is mastering that skill!

Art Work

At top of the World Preschool we encourage creativity. Our lesson plans allows your child to do one to two types of art related work each day. You will receive a multiple different types of art work done by your child each week. This can be a glued on cereal alphabet letter, paintbrush brown bear, and so on!

Daily Sheets

At this stage your child will start potty training. To keep you abreast of your child’s progress, our staff keeps a log of all of your child’s potty attempts, feedings, time of nap and activities, as well as his or her general mood and disposition. A copy of your two year old daily report is given to you every day.

Better Hygiene

We consistently earn an A+ in Good Hygiene! We have incorporated a strict protocol to ensure a clean, healthy environment:

• Dedicated Cots. We guarantee a dedicated cot for your toddler; this will be labeled with his or her name on the cot.
  
• Cot Sheets are changed and washed on a regular basis.
  
• Cots are disinfected on a regular basis.
  
• Toilets are cleaned each night.
  
• All toys are either washed or disinfectant at the end of each day.
  
• Hand Washing. Teachers use disinfectant soap in regular hand-washings after each diaper change, and feeding.
  
• After each diaper change or potty attempt and feedings the child’s hands will be washed with soap and water.
  
• Nightly Cleaning. In addition to area cleanings during the day, the  Room is thoroughly cleaned every night.
